Sustainable Tourism – Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann Awarded FairScore B Certification for 2026

At Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann, environmental responsibility goes far beyond a series of technical measures. It is part of a broader vision where responsible resource management, waste reduction and cultural engagement go hand in hand. This commitment is now reflected in the hotel's FairScore certification, which measures the real environmental impact of a stay, including both the overnight stay and breakfast.

FairScore: Measuring the Environmental Impact of Every Stay

Inspired by the Nutri-Score system, FairScore rates hotels from A+ to E- using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology developed by ADEME, the French Agency for Ecological Transition. This methodology evaluates the entire life cycle of products and services—from production and transport to use and end-of-life.

The rating is based on four key indicators:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions

  • Water consumption

  • Energy resource depletion

  • The proportion of organic and eco-certified products

FairScore B Certification for 2026

Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann has been awarded a FairScore B for 2026, with the following environmental performance indicators:

  • 5.2 kg of CO₂ emitted per overnight stay

  • 410 litres of water used across the product life cycle

  • 32 kWh of energy resources consumed

  • 52% organic and eco-certified products

This achievement is complemented by the internationally recognised Green Key eco-label, which rewards excellence in environmental management, including energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, biodiversity protection and staff and guest awareness.

Across the Société des Hôtels Littéraires, the overall environmental impact index has also fallen by 31% since 2023, demonstrating the Group's long-term commitment to more sustainable hospitality.

Smart Energy and Water Management

The hotel combines innovative technologies to reduce its environmental footprint. LED lighting, centralised heating and air conditioning managed by the A-Grid artificial intelligence system, and continuous monitoring of energy consumption have significantly reduced electricity use.

Water consumption is also carefully monitored through efficient fixtures and regular performance tracking, helping to preserve this essential resource.

Reducing Single-Use Plastics and Waste

Waste reduction is a cornerstone of the hotel's environmental strategy, particularly at breakfast.

Waste is carefully sorted, while organic waste is collected by cargo bike and transformed into compost. Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann is progressively eliminating single-use plastics by replacing them with glass containers, paper takeaway cups, bulk product deliveries and kraft paper laundry bags.

Responsible Purchasing and Food Waste Reduction

Whenever possible, the hotel favours locally sourced products and short supply chains. Cleaning products carry recognised eco-labels, consumables are selected for their durability, and printing is kept to a minimum.

To reduce food waste, the hotel partners with Too Good To Go, helping minimise surplus from its breakfast service.

Sustainability Beyond the Environment

At Hôtel Littéraire Le Swann, sustainability also embraces culture and society.

Dedicated to the world of Marcel Proust, the hotel features a multilingual library of more than 500 books and regularly hosts literary talks, exhibitions, conferences and cultural events.

The team also supports charitable and community initiatives by taking part in events such as Les 10 km des Étoiles, Pink October (Octobre Rose) and the Rouen Half Marathon, helping generate positive local impact while promoting sustainable and cultural tourism.
